The data for taxa in the septum database are organized into the following subgroups:
A single species may have data listed under one or more subgroup heading, e.g. having data entered for "Hyphae excluding ascogenous hyphae/ascus", "Ascogenous hyphae/ascus, immature", and "Ascogenous hyphae/ascus, mature".
Further information about the type of cell from which data was collected is displayed in the 2-letter location codes. This notation is used on the Search Results page for links to individual NEXUS files for an organism, and also within NEXUS files where the codes are appended to the taxon names ("Tuber_species_AC"). The key to the notation is here. The locations themselves can apply to more than one subgroup.
The following is a map to the information presented on a taxon's individual page.
At the top is the classification hierarchy for the taxon. Clicking on any of the hierarchical links brings up a list of the groups one level lower.
The "Voucher info" link displays a table with information about the specific organism used for the paper reference for morphological data. Taxon names (synonyms, anamorph names) and their authorities, the source of the organism, and other notes are listed. A more detailed description is here.
Below the "Voucher info" link are pictures from the source reference for which permission has been received for posting on the site. Unpublished supplemental images may be included as well.
The list of database structures shows what data are entered for the particular species and provides links to those data.
The characters and character states for each organism's page are displayed by location/cell type code, with characters for the appropriate subgroup listed below. For example, Laetisaria arvalis has data from a mycelium of unknown nuclear status ("XN" in the 2-letter notation) and no data for any other cell type. Clicking on "XN" link will take the user to those specific data.
Data for this location is entered for the subgroups "Hyphae excluding ascogenous hyphae/ascus" and "Multiperforate septa".
Under the location groups, the "Source Reference Information" link after a subgroup title that contains character state information leads to a table with information about the organism presented in the source reference. A more detailed description is here. In our example, the "Source Reference Information" link following "Hyphae excluding...." will have information associated with it, since there are filled-in character states for that subgroup. However, the "Source Reference Information" link for "Multiperforate septa", though clickable, will call up an empty table.

Clicking on a character state link on an organism's page displays an illustration of that particular character state. Clicking on the "edit" link allows users with login IDs to submit changes to the character state entry.
